What a fantastic start to our new topic, 'All Around the World'. The children have enjoyed sharing the story of Handa's Surprise, tasting different fruits featured in the story and locating their origin on the globe. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Kwame who shared music and art from his home country of Ghana. The children throughly enjoyed his music and were inspired to have a go back in the classroom. "The man was banging a drum very loud." Dylan 'Its a long way away and you have to go on a plane. He lives in a village." Enes "The music was lovely." Nayana The children continued with African drumming in their music sessions this week. The children experimented cut up fruits and paint to make printed pictures... They have enjoyed using the travelling machine in the classroom I wonder where it will take us next week?
The children had great fun on world book day dressing up in their book characters. Poppies learnt all about Axel Schiffler the illustrator who worked alongside Julia Donaldson. We read lots of his books including Zog and the Flying doctors. We made some gold star badges, carried out some colour mixing and printing as well as some pencil drawings.
The reception children have enjoyed the Aliens this week. They have been designing and naming their own aliens. Their knowledge of phase 2 sounds is increasing rapidly and the children are getting really good at blending sounds together making some nonsense (alien) words too! In maths the children have been measuring and seeing which containers hold more rocket fuel. They have also been working out which box would hold more crackers for baby bear to take to the moon.
